I am Andy. I currently live in Vancouver! Right now, I am an IT engineer, but I want to eventually quit IT and go into web development. I am already quite proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript because I self-learned on many free online courses for different clients when I was freelancing.
Q: Why Altcademy?
I was googling and found Altcademy! I liked that Altcademy is completely self-paced, so it’s good with the flexibility of time. When it’s self-paced, I don’t have to rush to finish things before a deadline. Traditional bootcamps force you to do the 9-to-5 timeframe. Free courses don’t offer the same structured curriculum as Altcademy. And, I also get a certificate on completion! All and all, it’s flexibility.
Q: How are you liking the program so far?
It’s great! I am back to work now after the COVID-19 break. It’s easy to code after work and have fun with it. I love the program because I can build things. So far, I can build out projects very quickly because I know most things in front-end web development besides Flexbox and React. I am doing this to enhance my knowledge.
I am taking full-stack because I come from a background of building infrastructure and systems for organizations. I use a lot of SQL at work, so I do want to learn Rails for back-end web development. Every big-name company is using Rails now, at least in Vancouver. I like this program that Altcademy has put together.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
After this program, I can transfer to a full-stack web development role in my current company. I will also consider freelancing or working for another company. If I can work remotely, that would be great because I prefer traveling.
