Q: What motivated you to learn to code?

I think coding has a very bright future. It’s good knowledge to have. I have a degree in economics and finance. Even if I were to do sales for an IT company, by learning to code, I’d have a better idea of what I’m selling. I was working in tourism (sales department, driving and guiding the tours) in Iceland, but I lost the job in August 2020 due to COVID-19. I don’t want my career path to be location-specific anymore. I want to be more flexible and have the ability to work from home or wherever I want. And it’s just cool learning something new!

Q: How do you like the program at Altcademy?

I like it! This program is precisely what I expected and was hoping for. I liked that Altcademy’s curriculum is very comprehensive and covers most of the topics. There are also assignments for each topic for practice after learning the theories and concepts.

It’s also really nice to have someone answer my questions when I am stuck. I really like my mentors. Coding is very interesting. I enjoy it!

Coding is as hard as I’ve imagined. It’s within my expectations. For example, HTML & CSS wasn’t too hard for me. But, JavaScript gets tougher because I am a complete beginner. So, I am going to take my time with JavaScript, which I am enabled to do because Altcademy is completely self-paced!

Q: What are your goals?

I have set myself a deadline to complete the whole program by August this year. My end goal is to get a remote job as a full stack web developer at some point. In the beginning, though, I’d probably need to work in a team setting to get more experience in a team setting within a company.
