Hi everyone, I am Scott. I currently live in Toronto. My background is music! I went to school for music and work as a private music teacher. I have also been a cook for 12 years. I love everything music-related.
Q: Why did you decide to learn to code?
It’s a combination of factors. Thinking a little more long-term, I want to have a long-term career with both creativity and stability, so learning coding has been on my mind for quite some time now. With restaurants and music on pause due to COVID-19, I have a lot more free time now. COVID-19 is perfect timing for me to get started because I will never have another 3-4 months again to focus on my own learning.
Q: How are you liking Altcademy so far?
I am liking it so far. I have done a few Udemy courses in the past. Front-end web development is quite creative, and I am a visual person. When I was working on projects in Altcademy, like writing a rock-paper-scissors program, I had to really think through it, and I really enjoyed the challenge.
This program has a structure to motivate me every day to learn online. I also couldn’t afford in-person bootcamps with their high tuition fees. Even though I like Udemy, it’s very passive. Altcademy has a balance of cost, flexibility, and structure.
Q: Any specific plans for the future?
I am not in a rushed time frame to finish the program. I gave myself a year to build up a good portfolio and really understand the details in coding. I am putting 40 to 50 hours a week in this program, so I expect to go through the whole thing in the next 3 months. Afterwards, I will look into internships as a junior developer.
